Astrid is currently working on completing her M.Sc. in Geography at Carleton University. She completed her (Hons) B.Sc. in Environmental Science with a specialization in global change at the University of Ottawa in 2020. During her undergraduate degree she became increasingly interested in the study of permafrost after completing multiple courses focused on northern studies.
Under the supervision of Chris Burn, Astrid will be conducting research on infrastructure sustainability and adaptability in Canada’s Northern regions. Her thesis will examine the costs associated with the effects of permafrost degradation on highway infrastructure in the Yukon. She hopes that this research will provide the basis for recommendations on climate change adaptations in Canada’s Northern communities.
