Yet, there is little consensus on how to classify terrain units with similar responses to change\u2014making cross-disciplinary and cross-study synthesis a persistent challenge. This is further complicated by the multi-scale nature of the processes we study, from fine-resolution field observations to global-scale Earth system models.
