Christine Dow

Christine is a glaciologist with a focus on subglacial hydrology and ice dynamics. She received a M.A. in Geography at the University of Edinburgh, a M.Sc. in Earth Science from the University of Alberta, a Ph.D in Geography from Swansea University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Christine uses numerical models to examine water flow under glaciers and assess how this impacts the flow speed of the overlying ice. She is also researching Antarctic ice shelves and their stability in a warming climate. . Her primary field site is in the St. Elias Mountains of the Yukon where she is using hot water drilling and geophysical techniques to investigate surging glacier dynamics. The future of both grounded and floating ice has significant implications for sea level rise and global climate.
