Diony was born and raised in Brazil, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering and a postgraduate Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering. He started his engineering career as a project engineer working in design projects for the energy sector. 

Diony moved to Calgary in 2015 from where he worked as a turbomachinery controls engineer and field execution lead around the world for various sectors and completed a Master of Business Administration. He moved to Ottawa in 2019 and joined the National Research Council (NRC) as instrumentation supervisor for the Aerospace Research Centre. 

He joined NSERC in June 2022 and supports the design and delivery of various research partnerships programs, including NSERC Permafrost Partnership Network for Canada.
