Dr. Jean Holloway joined NSERC PermafrostNet in 2022 as a postdoctoral fellow co-affiliated at the University of Ottawa and Université Laval and supervised by Dr. Pascale Roy-Léveillée.

Jean has begun a project with Theme 4 related to permafrost hazards. Through a series of workshops, surveys, and interviews with multiple stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, she aims to gather a range of perspectives on permafrost hazards and identify key knowledge gaps to guide Theme 4 outcomes, and, more broadly, national adaptation plans for long-term permafrost thaw.

Jean’s research interests are focused, broadly, around determining how climate change is impacting various elements of the Canadian Arctic. She completed a Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa, identifying the impacts of forest fires on permafrost in the boreal forest of Canada. She then joined the Environment, Society, and Policy Group (ESPG) at the University of Ottawa where she currently holds an AN-MEOPAR Fellowship for her project looking at changes in Arctic shipping activity and the subsequent human and environmental impacts, with the goal of producing research that is useable by policy makers. Jean remains part-time with the ESPG and part-time with NSERC PermafrostNet.
