Maria is pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Professor Claude Duguay. Maria graduated from Western University with a specialization in Geographic Information Science. Her current research interest is the observation and analysis of the thermokarst lake dynamics in the Canadian subarctic. She is looking to identify representative sites, explore time trends observed through microwave remote sensing, and attempt to understand the changes occurring in the underlying permafrost. The focus of her Master’s work is the application of the deep learning techniques to the microwave image time-series of the Canadian thermokarst landscapes.
