Janet King

Dr. Janet King is a former Associate Deputy Minister at Public Services and Procurement Canada. In this role Dr. King was responsible for leading the renewal of federal science infrastructure up until July 2020.

Janet began her career with the federal Public Service as a Research Scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada, spending many years conducting geological field research in the barren lands of the Northwest Territories. She subsequently took on increasingly senior management positions, with responsibilities for such diverse areas as national geoscience partnerships, health product and food safety, life sciences sector development, tourism sector development and western economic diversification. She returned to a northern focus with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada leading northern policy, legislation, regulation and program delivery across Canada’s North, including NWT devolution and the establishment of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station, and subsequently leading the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor). Janet is a member of the Board of Directors of Polar Knowledge Canada and the Canadian Science Policy Centre.

Janet has a BSc from the University of Toronto, and an MSC and PhD from Queen’s University, all in the field of Geology.
