Arctic Change 2024

This year ArcticNet is hosting the 5th International Arctic Change Conference (AC2024) at Ottawa’s Shaw Center, December 9-12. NSERC PermafrostNet will be combining our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in conjunction with the conference.
The Arctic Change conference is expected to have 300 oral presentations, spread over almost 70 sessions along with 240 poster presentations. These sessions will take place from Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 December, with the NSERC PermafrostNet AGM on Monday 9 December.
The call for abstracts is open (deadline 13 September)
Technical sessions related to permafrost:
- TER64 – Resiliency of Ice Roads and Winter Roads in Northern Canada
- TER67 – Permafrost research in support of northern resilience (Co-Chairs: Pascale Roy-Léveillé, Fabrice Calmels, and Adam Kirkwood)
- TER68 – Arctic Coastal Dynamics in a Changing Climate
- TER72 – Geoscience in support of climate change adaptation and northern development
- TER74 – Impacts of climate change on water quality and quantity, and implications for water security (Co-Chairs: Erika Hille, Mike Palmer, Aurora Research Institute, Elise Devoie, Queens University, Melissa Lafrenière)
- TER78 – New insights into ground ice in permafrost: Fundamental and applied research at local to regional scales (Co-Chairs: Brendan O’Neill, Natural Resources Canada, Alexandre Chiasson, Yifeng Wang, Queen’s University, Tabatha Rahman, Kethra Campbell-Heaton, University of Ottawa)
NSERC PermafrostNet and NSERC CREATE LEAP are also delivering a joint training session, OTH55 – Exploring Professional Skills for Permafrost Careers in Canada’s North. This session will provide guidance and advice on how to secure and sustain rewarding careers that improve climate resiliency while fostering collaboration. Join us as we get a fuller picture about the career options that exist in permafrost related fields, and the pathways you can take.

In addition to these sessions there will be network side meetings, networking events and the Board of Directors meeting.
