Adeleh joined NSERC PermafrostNet in the Winter of 2023 as a Master’s student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University. She completed her B.Sc. in the same field at Amirkabir University of Technology in Iran in 2022. She became interested in the area of geotechnical engineering during her undergraduate studies and after taking many courses in this area.
During her master’s studies, she will work on sustainable culvert design over degrading permafrost in the Hudson Bay railway under the supervision of Professor Shawn Kenny. This research project involves numerical modelling of several culverts, the surrounding permafrost environment and local hydrology to develop engineering designs and strategies for supporting northern communities in the adaption of infrastructure for thawing permafrost.
